Master Class with Lynne Golodner: Demystifying Show, Don’t Tell
Saturday, November 14, 2026
2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in Rochester, Michigan
The writer’s mantra – and the bane of most writers’ existence – is Show, Don’t Tell. Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned writer, the chances are good that you’ve come up against this feedback and grumbled under your breath trying to figure out how, exactly, to show more than tell. In this workshop, writers will get down and dirty with ways to show and how to identify in their writing where they are telling and how to enjoy transforming that telling into showing.
Taught by award-winning author and renowned writing coach Lynne Golodner, this three-hour intimate workshop will explore techniques and strategies for showing. We’ll read examples that are rich in showing, try it out in writing prompts, learn how to make your writing stronger and more compelling, and come away with clarity on what it takes to show on the page.
You’ll begin to understand why showing is preferable to telling, learn to identify instances of telling in your drafts, develop techniques to show more on the page and feel empowered to improve your writing and not crushed when you receive this feedback. Registration is limited to 12 participants.

Lynne Golodner is the award-winning author of 12 books and hundreds of essays and articles. With an MFA in Poetry and a BA in journalism, Lynne has lived and written in New York, Washington, D.C., and Detroit and she now travels the world coaching writers and leading writing retreats.
