Applications are now being accepted to participate in the 2026 Rochester Author Fair and Book Sale. Only 10 authors will be selected this year due to library renovations. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on July 31, 2026. Selected authors will be notified in September.

Squeezed between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is the Rochester Author & Book Fair on Shop Small Saturday. Book lovers from across Southeast Michigan can delight in connecting with some of their favorite authors, meeting new writers, and perhaps catching some creative inspiration of their own at the Annual Rochester Author and Book Fair hosted by Rochester Writers and Rochester Hills Public Library (RHPL).

Ten Michigan authors will be on hand to discuss their books, share their love of writing, and to sign copies of their latest books. The event features a mix of traditionally published and indie published authors from a variety of genres, including children’s fiction, adult fiction, and nonfiction titles. This popular local literary event takes place in the library from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It’s a perfect opportunity to shop for anyone on your holiday gift-giving list this year. Free parking, free to attend, and complimentary cider and donuts.
2026 Authors, their Hometown, and Primary Genre (coming soon)
The library provides the space and there is no cost to the authors to participate. Over 100 authors apply each year, however, space allows for only 10 to participate in the event. Rochester Writers and the library team sort through them to select a diversity of genres, with both new and seasoned authors represented from a variety of publishing backgrounds. Applications accepted until 5:00 p.m. on July 31. Accepted authors will be notified in September. This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required to attend. Visitors are welcome to visit the authors throughout the run of the event. Authors will sign purchased books in person.

Since 2008, Rochester Writers has served local authors and freelance writers by hosting writing groups, contests, workshops, and conferences. Every October, Oakland University is home to their signature event, the Rochester Writers’ Conference. Their events are family-friendly and open to new writers, working journalists, and published authors.
